SCAN AND TRACK BEACONS
Create mobile forms for collecting Eddystone and iBeacon data in minutes.
What is a Bluetooth Beacon?
A Bluetooth Beacon is a battery powered radio transmitter that operates using Bluetooth standards. In general a Bluetooth Beacon will simply transmit its identity to any device listening. This transmission can include the identity of the beacon, a URL, battery level, among other things, and depending on the beacon type.
There are a number of benefits to using Bluetooth Beacons over traditional RFID. These can include read range, and compatibility with most consumer and enterprise grade mobile devices. Bluetooth Beacons are also well suited for keeping track of an items location within a facility or yard.
Common applications for Bluetooth Beacons are personnel tracking, high value asset tracking, and any situation where coverage of a large area is required.
Benefits:
- Long Read Range
- Compatible with most iOS and Android devices
- Affordable
Common Applications:
- Personnel Tracking
- High Value Asset Tracking
- Locationing
Bluetooth Beacon Technology
TracerPlus Supports most Bluetooth Beacons available and runs on most Android and iOS devices. This gives users a cost effective way to track personnel, and assets with Bluetooth technology
iBeacon
The iBeacon format was developed by Apple and includes data needed to uniquely identify an item to which it is affixed. The data that is transmitted from an iBeacon includes a UUID identifier and Major/Minor numbers. This data allows TracerPlus to determine the identity of the beacon as it is scanned.
iBeacons will also transmit out data to that can be used to determine the current ditance a TracerPlus mobile device is from it. This can be used to locatethe item to which the beacon is attached.
Eddystone
Eddystone beacons were developed by Google and offer some additional data that can be transmitted from the beacon other than just the beacon's identity. These are called Eddystone Frame Types and are described below:
- Eddystone UID - Similar to iBeacon. The beacon will transmit identifying information
- Eddystone URL - A beacon set as an Eddystone URL beacon will transmit a user specified website URL.
- EddyStone TLM - Allows for sensor data to be transmitted. This can include things like battery life, and accelerometer data.
